Localized VMM 2012 R2 UR6 Console crash when changing/creating Hardware Profiles

Not very often I see server software in a different language than English but last week I was working with a customer that wants the dutch language on every server and software. There are several good arguments not to… but as the say in the Netherlands “a customer is king” 😉 So the Dutch language it is!

I installed VMM 2012 R2 in a cluster with UR6. After working with it for a while I got the error message below. After a restart I got it again when I wanted to create a hardware profile. Also when deploying a VM and got to the hardware part the console crashes. So no matter what, when I access hardware settings in VMM, the console crashes.

You can request a hotfix from the link below. The article does not really describe the error above. This issue only occurs when you install VMM in any language other than English.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3065235

Apply the hotfix:

1.Back up the Microsoft.VirtualManager.UI.HardwareProperties.resources.dll file or rename it to “.old” or something. You’ll find this file in the %VMMINSTALLPATH%\bin\<Language> Virtual Machine Manager installation directory.

2.Stop the Virtual Machine Manager Administrator Console.

3.Extract the correct architecture and language version of Microsoft.VirtualManager.UI.HardwareProperties.resources.dll from the hotfix package, and then replace the file in the %VMMINSTALLPATH%\bin\<Language> directory.

4.Restart the Virtual Machine Manager Administrator Console.

After this start the VMM console and go to Library \ Hardware profile and you are able to use it now without the console crashing.

Good luck!
